vocabulary for documents

LESSON OVERVIEW

The main objectives of this vocabulary worksheet are to:

  • discuss topics related to documents and paperwork;
  • practise vocabulary for documents;
  • work on how words are pronounced.

Students talk about working with documents and paperwork. They learn the names of common documents (e.g. application form, certificate, contract), explore pronunciation features and practise document-related collocations (e.g. sign the contract, file the tax return, scan the receipt). Students also share experiences, talk about paperwork tasks and discuss how they handle, use and organise different documents.

This is a Vocabulary Lab worksheet. With it, students are introduced to a set of vocabulary on a specific topic and practise it through controlled activities, speaking tasks and games. Learn more about it here.

WARM-UP AND VOCABULARY

This vocabulary worksheet starts with a warm-up. Students discuss questions about working with documents. After that, they practise vocabulary for documents. Students match the names of documents in statements about paperwork (e.g. receipt, invoice, agenda) with their meanings. Moving on, they look at the words again and answer questions about document details (e.g. Which documents usually have more than one person’s name on them?). Afterwards, students look at document-related words (e.g. invoice, licence, receipt) and decide which of them have different pronunciation features (e.g. the stress on the first syllable).

COLLOCATIONS AND DISCUSSION

In this part of the worksheet, students work with more vocabulary for documents. They complete statements with collocations about documents and paperwork (e.g. fill in a form, issue a graduation certificate, create a work schedule). Following that, students look at the situations from the previous task again (e.g. I submitted an application form for my dream job, but unfortunately I didn’t get it) and say if anything similar has ever happened to them. They give details. Students then choose points related to paperwork and tasks (e.g. how to open a bank account). They talk about them using verbs (e.g. create, file, fill in) and their own ideas. Finally, students discuss questions about using and handling documents.

HOMEWORK/REVISION

This vocabulary worksheet also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students complete gaps in statements about documents. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.

        Thank you for this functional lesson. It is filled with essential vocabulary surrounding documents relevant to business and everyday life. I’ve used it as is for a basis and during the lesson ask the clients which other documents they deal with at work or private life – and for example delivery note and marriage certificate came up. So it’s highly adaptable to individual needs of your clients/students.

          Sounds great! Thanks for sharing 🙂

Is there a minimum subscription period if I choose a monthly subscription?

No, there's no minimum required number of subscription months. You can cancel any time you want. Basically, you can sign up and then cancel your subscription the next day, which will mean you have access for 1 month and won't be charged again.

What currencies can I pay in for my subscription?

Our default currency is USD (American dollar), but you can also pay in EUR (euro), GBP (British pound sterling) or PLN (Polish zloty). You can change the currency you want to pay in at the Pricing page before selecting a subscription plan.

How can I edit an e-lesson plan?

You can get your own editable copy of an e-lesson plan and make changes to it. To do so, either (1) make a copy of it on your Google Drive (preferable method) or (2) download it in a Powerpoint format (but formatting might be a bit off so we can’t guarantee that it will work well).
