What’s inside the B1 General Lesson Flow?

This flow helps students become intermediate users of English. It will boost their confidence with the help of authentic listening material, as well as varied speaking tasks. Students will also improve their grammar and vocabulary as well as practise using new material in speaking.

Developing language skills

With this B1 General Lesson Flow, your students will work on:

  • speaking skills while talking about themselves and about what life used to be like; while discussing cities, travelling by plane and tourism, social media and texting, important objects, eating out, food waste, grocery and thrift shopping, clothes and outfits, fast fashion, individual and team activities, devices and tech pet peeves; when speculating about the future; when explaining when it’s appropriate to apologize and to complain; when making comparisons; while talking about being productive and unproductive; while doing role-plays;
  • listening skills while watching videos about: entrepreneurs, learning, a school with two pupils, a purse lost sixty years ago, ebooks, social media, being unproductive, best ways to complain in a restaurant, grocery shopping, minimalist wardrobe, thrift shopping and digitizing old photos; while listening to recordings in which people: describe what someone is wearing and order food at a restaurant; while watching reports about: flying business class, tourists causing trouble to locals and fast fashion; while listening to a podcast about the English language; while watching: a vlog about dining alone and one about texting, a presentation about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, short film clips, ads and a street interview;
  • reading skills while reading: an article about siblings and success and one about reading books, a text about a famous entrepreneur and descriptions of online courses;
  • writing skills when writing a short bio, describing photos and writing stories.

Improving grammar, vocabulary and functional language

The Flow also makes your students learn and practise:

  • vocabulary to talk about: digital devices, travelling, social media, eating out, shopping, clothes and fashion, important objects, companies and their milestones, learning and remembering; phrases for speculation;
  • grammar: past forms (Past Simple, ‘used to’, Past Perfect), future forms (Future Simple Present Continuous and ‘going to’), making comparisons, the use of gerund, reflexive and reciprocal pronouns, passive voice, conjunctions and prepositions, First and Second Conditional, the structures ‘So do I’ and ‘Neither do I’;
  • functional language: expressing possibility, doubt and certainty, making plans, making and accepting apologies, complaining.
