This is a Lesson Flow, a sequence of 15-20 lessons, with additional ‘follow up’ lesson suggestions. The Flows are compilations of pre-existing ESL Brains lessons, but with a new purpose of helping teachers navigate learning in a more structured way. Learn more about it here.
What’s inside part 1 of A1 General Lesson Flow?
Part 1 of this Lesson Flow is perfect for beginner students and can also be used with false beginners. It features 18 engaging lessons and 3 fun follow-up lessons which will allow students to start communicating in English. You can see part 2 of the A1 General Lesson Flow here.
Developing language skills
With part 1 of A1 General Lesson Flow, your students will work on:
- speaking skills while talking about people and possessions, describing objects around them, talking about daily routine and healthy habits, workspaces, clothes, weather and travelling, body parts and learning experiences;
- listening skills with videos: a street interview, an excerpt from Family Feud, short cartoons, as well as videos about a dress, a collection of cups, morning and daily routine, times people do certain things, workspaces, weather, clothes and travelling, favourite summer activities, what people want to learn to do; and recordings: introductions, describing morning routine, picture descriptions, sentences with demonstrative pronouns;
- reading skills with texts about people’s favourite; days of the week, family members and their possessions;
- writing skills while creating sentences about people they know, people in their country, people’s daily routines.
Improving grammar, vocabulary and functional language
Part 1 of the Flow also makes your students learn and practise:
- vocabulary: people around us, countries and nationalities, numbers 1-99, daily activities, verbs, objects, colours, body parts, clothes, weather and holiday activities, prepositions in holiday-related collocations, phrases for language learning strategies;
- grammar: Present Simple affirmative, negative and questions (including verbs ‘be’ and ‘have got’), adverbs of frequency, there is/there are, possessives, ‘like’/’love’/’hate’ + gerund, demonstrative pronouns, using ‘want’ and ‘would like’;
- functional language: introductions, at a clothes shop, telling the time, using the structure ‘Would you like to…?’.

So you mean I have to read through the flow while also using the lesson plan? Or what? That is a lot of reading. Do I just read it once and re use that lesson or what? It seems heaps of reading?

I noticed that neither part of the A1 flow includes a lesson about present continuous. A2 starts with a review of both, present simple and present continuous. Approximately at what point in the A1 sequence would you recommend introducing it?
