READING

First, students need to work in pairs and think of three things they should always do when talking on the phone in a business situation. You can do this exercise in speaking as well. Then, students move to a short text which talks about some business telephone etiquette tips. Their task is to fill in the gaps in the text with the provided words.

DISCUSSION

Next, students have to discuss the tips they’ve read and say why it is important to follow them. Monitor the discussion and give students as much time as you can during the class. In their next activity, students have to write down five things we should never do when talking on the phone. Finally, make them work in pairs and create their own list of dont’s for telephoning.
