With this tourism lesson plan, students discuss gastro-tourism, watch a video about Icelandic bread and learn some vocabulary related to food from different parts of the world.
VOCABULARY & DISCUSSION
In the warm-up activity, students brainstorm what gastro-tourism might be. Then, they read five statements about gastro-tourism and decide which of them are true. The statements are based on an international survey about travelling (e.g. the amount of money people spend on food while travelling, where most gastro-tourists come from). Students also have to explain why they think the statements are correct or incorrect. After the discussion, they look at seven pictures and try to work out the meanings of some words presented in them (e.g. cuisine, oriental, Mediterranean, Scandinavian). The words are going to be used throughout this gastro-tourism lesson plan. Then, students match the words with their definitions. Students also discuss some questions related to types of unusual food they have tried or would like to try.
VIDEO & READING
Before the video, students look at a list of four ingredients and say what dish can be made using them. Then, they watch the video for the first time and check whether the dish presented in the video is similar to the one they described. The video presents an unusual way of baking bread. During the second viewing, students answer five comprehension questions. After the video, students discuss some questions about gastro-tourism. Then, they read four short texts about different food festivals around the world. They discuss which of them they would like to visit and also talk about other food festivals they know. In the last task of this tourism lesson plan, students create questions about gastro-tourism using the words from the lesson (e.g. gastro-tourist, ingredient, exotic) and discuss the questions with their partner.

Just one quick fix required though…
In the “Let’s check the answers” section on page 10 of the e-lesson plan, the first two answers are displayed in the wrong order.
The answer for B (related to Asian countries) is displayed first.
The answer for A (unusual or related to foreign countries) is displayed second.
They should be swapped.
