LESSON OVERVIEW
The main objectives of this lesson are to:
- discuss visa requirements and application processes;
- learn and use vocabulary for visa applications;
- watch a video on obtaining a visa.
In this lesson, students discuss situations where people need a visa, talk about travel requirements and watch a video on how to obtain a visa. They complete the rules for a visa application, practise key application actions (e.g. renew, sponsor, submit) and work with a dialogue involving an interview. Students also write and ask questions about the visa application process and read about recent visa laws from different countries.

WARM-UP AND VIDEO
This lesson focuses on vocabulary for visa applications and starts with a warm-up. Students name things that come to mind when they hear the word ‘visa’. Afterwards, they examine situations in which people travel or move to a country and may need a visa (e.g. studying in a country, going on holiday to a country). Students discuss questions about visas and travel requirements. Moving on, they watch the first part of a video about a work visa and say what the visa is for. Then, students watch the second part about the steps of applying for the visa and put them in the correct order. After that, they watch the second part of the video again and answer questions about visa application details.
USEFUL VOCABULARY AND DISCUSSION
In this part of the lesson, students complete the rules for the process of obtaining a visa. They match sentence halves containing vocabulary for visa applications (e.g. approve, deny, fill out). Following that, students choose the correct verbs to complete a dialogue between a visa officer and an applicant. They then work in pairs. Student A writes questions about the visa application process using the target words from the lesson. Student B does the same. They then ask and answer each other’s questions. In their answers, students share their own experiences or make them up if necessary. Finally, they read about some recent visa laws from different countries and discuss their thoughts on visa laws and policies.
HOMEWORK/REVISION
This lesson also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students read comments and respond to them using vocabulary for visa applications. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.

great lesson! the volume of the video is low, but i’m not sure you can do anything about this, though.
We’re glad you like the lesson. Thanks for sharing.
