Flipped

lesson plan about recruitment

LESSON OVERVIEW

This lesson plan about recruitment is based on an interesting TED Talk by Gail Tolstoi-Miller who shares her experience working in recruitment and talks about unconscious bias that we all have. The worksheet includes a lot of vocabulary as well as word formation tasks.

B2 / Upper Intermediate60 minFlipped LessonUnlimited Plan

This is a Flipped Classroom lesson plan. In a nutshell, it means that the first part of the lesson needs to be done by students at home. Learn more about flipped classroom and how we implement it in these lesson plans in our post.

PRE-CLASS ACTIVITIES

The pre-class part starts with a short exercise which introduces words and phrases that appear later in the video. Students need to read questions, match phrases to their meanings and try to answer these questions. Next, they move to a word formation task. They have to fill in the table with nouns, adjectives and verbs. The table includes words such as recruitment, assessment, perception, consciousness, etc. Then, before watching the first part of the talk, students have to guess the answer to one question: How much time on average does it take a recruiter to review a resume? Next, they watch the video and do the comprehension task.

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

The in-class part starts with a word formation exercise to check whether students remember the words from the pre-class worksheet. First, they have to complete the questions by transforming the words given in brackets, and then answer the questions. Before watching the second part of the video, students discuss how they might perceive a person presented in a short description (the same description is at the end of the video). After that, students watch the video and answer comprehension questions, as well as do two tasks on vocabulary used by the speaker. Our lesson plan about recruitment ends with a discussion about unconscious bias, how it affects our decision and what we can do to fight against it.
