LESSON OVERVIEW

The main objectives of this lesson are to:

  • learn daily routine vocabulary and discuss everyday activities;
  • practise Present Simple affirmative forms for he, she, it;
  • watch and discuss a video about a person’s daily routine.

With this lesson plan, students practise Present Simple affirmative verbs and learn vocabulary to describe everyday activities. They work on conjugating verbs in Present Simple for he, she, it. They watch a video about how a woman spends her Friday and do comprehension activities. Students also share information about their daily routine and learn about their partner’s everyday habits

VOCABULARY AND VIDEO

This lesson plan begins with a warm-up. Students look at the photos of people and answer the questions about their morning (e.g. What do the people never do?). Then, students look at pictures with activities. They practise daily routine vocabulary by matching the pairs of phrases to the pictures (e.g. go shopping, have dinner). After that, they complete gaps in statements using the phrases in brackets, keeping in mind that there is one phrase they don’t need. Afterwards, students name three activities they do every day: two true and one false. Their partner needs to guess which one is false. Students also watch a video about how a person spends her Friday. They say three things that they see in the video (e.g. a computer). Then, they watch the video again and choose the correct option. Following that, students discuss some questions related to the video and move on to explore Present Simple affirmative. 

GRAMMAR AND DISCUSSION

In this part of the lesson, students read some short texts about the person from the video’s weekend, which include the target grammar of Present Simple affirmative. They read the texts and choose which days they are about. Then, students do a task in which they conjugate Present Simple affirmative verbs for he, she, it. Students read the sentences from the previous exercise again and complete the table with the correct forms of verbs (e.g. watches, plays, cooks). To continue their practice, they then complete more sentences with the verbs from the table. Students then write five sentences about themselves and the people they know using the vocabulary in the boxes. To finish up their practice of the Present Simple affirmative verbs, students look at the photos. They imagine they are going to make a video about this person’s day. They use provided sentence beginnings to write what the person does. 

HOMEWORK/REVISION

This lesson plan also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. Students need to write sentences about their daily routines using provided words and phrases. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.
