LESSON OVERVIEW

The main objectives of this lesson are to:

  • read an article about a self-empowerment app and discuss its impact and features;
  • discuss the use of AI as a source of support and guidance;
  • talk about the use and advantages of voice messaging.

With this lesson, students talk about voice messaging, discuss the slogan of a self-empowerment app and evaluate its features. They also explore phrases to talk about mental health and guidance (e.g. voice your thoughts, set someone on the right path, combat loneliness, etc.), share their opinion on the advantages and drawbacks of the self-empowerment app and discuss the role and effects of AI-based mental health tools.

This is a Critical Reading Club worksheet. With this format, students need to read an online article at home and do the exercises in the classroom. Learn more about how to use such worksheets and their benefits in our post.

ACTIVITIES

This lesson starts with a warm-up where students look at the beginnings of voice messages (e.g. “I don’t want to vent but…”). They say what the messages might be about. Then, students answer questions about using voice messages. Afterwards, they read the slogan of the app described in the article (Manifest) and explain the reasoning behind it, in their opinion. Following that, students look at the features the app offers. They do tasks where they evaluate and discuss the app’s features. Next, students think of one word that completes gaps in pairs of sentences which include the features, benefits, and limitations of mental health apps. They then read the sentences about apps like Manifest again and say to what extent they agree with them. Finally, students talk about the use and impact of AI-driven mental health tools.

How can I edit an e-lesson plan?

You can get your own editable copy of an e-lesson plan and make changes to it. To do so, either (1) make a copy of it on your Google Drive (preferable method) or (2) download it in a Powerpoint format (but formatting might be a bit off so we can’t guarantee that it will work well).
