| LESSON OVERVIEW
In this lesson, students learn five pairs of verb synonyms and collocations which can be used to talk about sustainable living. They also come up with and reflect on eco-friendly solutions.
This is a Critical Reading Club worksheet. With this format, students need to read an online article at home and do the exercises in the classroom. Learn more about how to use such worksheets and their benefits in our post.
ACTIVITIES
In the first activity students look at a table which presents five verbs and two words they collocate with: energy and electricity. Given the first letters, they have to come up with the synonyms of the provided verbs (e.g. produce-generate, save-preserve). Once the table is completed, students engage in a discussion on eco-friendly solutions inspired by the article they read at home and reflect on their own eco-friendly choices. The final activity encourages students to think creatively and brainstorm possible reuses of some everyday objects (e.g. old clothes, cans, chipped mugs) in order to become more environmentally friendly.

Bad lesson quality. This is supposed to be 30 min but the article is like a bloody 30-minute read for an intermediate student in and of itself. Also, there is no introduction, and the questions aren’t easily digestible.

Hi Liam! Yes, the content is not for an intermediate student, because it’s for an upper-intermediate (B2) one. It’s mentioned in the lesson description and we wouldn’t recommend doing this lesson with lower-level students. This is a Critical Reading Club worksheet, so students have to read an article before class (which is also mentioned in the lesson description).
