| LESSON OVERVIEW
The main objectives of this lesson are to:
- engage in talking about AI considering different points;
- practise adjectives and expressions to talk about AI’s effects and risks;
- watch a video excerpt on the impact of agentic AI.
Students discuss technology they are excited about, review adjectives for describing AI and read about generative AI in business. They share their opinions, watch part of a video (to 04:06) about agentic AI and discuss predictions about that technology and its future impact. Students also explore advanced expressions for AI’s effects and processes (e.g. coalesce into, pave the way, lean into), read about fictional applications of agentic AI and talk about its performance and potential risks.
WARM-UP AND ADJECTIVES
This lesson focuses on talking about AI and starts with a warm-up. Students discuss an existing or upcoming technology (e.g. app, gadget, software) they are excited about. After that, they read some statistics about generative AI in business (e.g. 95% of attempts to implement AI into businesses fail). Students then discuss questions about their experiences and opinions on AI. Moving on, they look at sentences about different views on AI technology and match adjectives (e.g. nascent, fallible, anticipatory) with their synonyms. Next, students choose opinions from the previous task and expand on them.
VIDEO AND DISCUSSION
In this part of the lesson, students engage in talking about AI and watch part of a video about agentic AI. First, they finish a sentence about generative and agentic AI with their own ideas. Then, students watch the first part of the video and compare their answers. Afterwards, they watch the second part of the video and answer questions about agentic AI challenges. Moving on, students read the meaning of capability overhang and discuss agentic AI and its future impact. After that, they choose the correct words (e.g. yield, pivot, feed) to complete comments about the risks and limits of agentic AI. Students then choose some of them to respond to. Finally, they read fictional applications of agentic AI and answer questions about its performance and risks.
HOMEWORK/REVISION
This lesson also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students read a dialogue and write the missing adjectives. They then complete the sentences with their ideas. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.
