| LESSON OVERVIEW
In this worksheet students practise some language related to food’s carbon footprint. They also discuss their food choices and the factors that influence them.
This is a Critical Reading Club worksheet. With this format, students need to read an online article at home and do the exercises in the classroom. Learn more about how to use such worksheets and their benefits in our post.
ACTIVITIES
The lesson begins with a warm-up activity in which students need to think of products for four food categories (e.g. protein-rich food, fresh fruit that has a short shelf-life). Then, they do a vocabulary task in which they have to complete a list of factors that influence people’s food choices (e.g. animal welfare, health and dietary restrictions). To make it a bit easier, students do it using cues in brackets to help them. Next, they move on to discuss their own food choices. They also exchange their views on food’s carbon footprint and different ways of reducing it. Finally, they give reasons why they would or wouldn’t be willing to take some steps to reduce carbon footprint (e.g. going vegan, excluding beef from their diet).
