C1 / Advanced60 minFlipped LessonUnlimited Plan

This is a Flipped Classroom lesson plan. In a nutshell, it means that the first part of the lesson needs to be done by students at home. Learn more about flipped classroom and how we implement it in these lesson plans in our post.

PRE-CLASS ACTIVITIES

Warm-up & video

The pre-class part of the lesson starts with a vocabulary activity. Students match nine words (e.g. fudge, divert, concerned) to their definitions. Then, they read eight gapped questions related to a video they’ll watch later and try to complete them with the words from the previous task. They watch the video about a project called 7 Days of Garbage and think how they would answer the questions.

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

Discussion & listening practice

The in-class part starts with a discussion in which students once again reflect on the questions from the pre-class part and share their opinions. After that, they focus on seven definitions of words which are related to the word garbage (e.g. litter, flotsam, dustman) and have to decide whether they are true or false. Before they watch another video, students discuss how much they know about its theme – the zero waste trend. They watch the video for the first time and focus on finding the answers to two general questions. The second listening task requires more attention and detailed answers. Students read seven gapped sentences taken from the video and have to complete the gaps with one to five words each. The listening practice is followed by a discussion in which students exchange their views and comment on the videos they watched at home and in class. The final task of this lesson plan on zero waste gives them the opportunity to imagine what they could change in their lives to go zero waste. They discuss their ideas taking into consideration such categories as cosmetics, clothes, cleaning products and food.

This lady is very annoying, as she speaks fast without pausing. At least it wasn’t too long 😉

  2. Bell

Interesting and confronting … should promote some great discussion. Don’t agree that the woman is annoying – she speaks as quickly as many other native speakers, and this lesson is aimed at high level students, after all.
