talking about transport

LESSON OVERVIEW

The main objectives of this lesson are to:

  • engage in talking about transport from different perspectives;
  • revise transport vocabulary;
  • watch two short videos about new transport options.

In this lesson, students examine photos of different kinds of wheels and review vocabulary for means of transport (e.g. boat, motorcycle, skateboard). They share their experiences and opinions, talk about the advantages and disadvantages of transport choices and watch two videos about new ways of getting around. Students also discuss new transport options, read about alternative ways of travelling and say whether they agree or disagree with future transport ideas.

Speaking ClassUnlimited Plan

This is a Speaking Class worksheet. It includes a variety of tasks that let your students practise their speaking skills. This lesson format does not focus on grammar or vocabulary. Learn more about it here.

WARM-UP AND VOCABULARY

This lesson starts with a warm-up. Students examine photos of different wheels and engage in talking about transport by guessing which means each one is part of. They then say which of the means of transport is their favourite and explain why. Moving on, students look at various means of transport (e.g. bike, helicopter, ship) and compare their similarities and differences. Afterwards, they create categories and sort different means of transport. Following that, students review the means of transport from the previous task and discuss their habits, preferences and costs. Next, they think of the advantages and disadvantages of several scenarios involving transportation (e.g. you go on holiday by plane).

VIDEO AND DISCUSSION

In this part of the lesson, students watch two videos on new means of transport (an electric skateboard and electric roller skates) and rate each one, considering speed, safety, comfort and coolness. Afterwards, they engage in talking about transport by sharing opinions on using new ways of getting around. Moving on, students read facts about alternative ways of travelling and discuss questions about them. Following that, they read about new means of transport and do tasks where they talk about the future of transport.

HOMEWORK/REVISION

This lesson also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students choose the correct words in sentences. They then create different sentences by changing some parts. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.

How can I edit an e-lesson plan?

You can get your own editable copy of an e-lesson plan and make changes to it. To do so, either (1) make a copy of it on your Google Drive (preferable method) or (2) download it in a Powerpoint format (but formatting might be a bit off so we can’t guarantee that it will work well).
