Speaking ClassUnlimited Plan

This is a Speaking Class worksheet. It includes a variety of tasks that let your students practise their speaking skills. This lesson format does not focus on grammar or vocabulary. Learn more about it here.

WARM-UP & VIDEOS

This lesson about technology starts with a warm-up activity. Students read a definition of the term augmented reality and look at its three examples (e.g. Snapchat filters and lenses). They explain how the examples work and talk about their experience using them. If they don’t know what the examples are, students guess what they might do. Then, they watch an ad for smart contact lenses and discuss some questions. They brainstorm some possible applications for the technology and share whether they have seen similar technologies in films. After that, they watch the second video to find out some more details about the contact lenses. Finally, they share which part of the video surprised them most.

DISCUSSION

This part of the lesson starts with a discussion about the technology presented in the videos. Students need to read six short comments and decide whether they agree with them and to what extent. The comments refer to some of the details of the smart contact lenses, as well as to general ideas about AR. Then, students look at the list of some possible applications of the lenses mentioned in the videos (e.g. night vision, virtual teleprompter). They discuss whether the applications could be useful in everyday life or as a tool for professionals. In the final part of this lesson about technology, students talk about augmented reality. They also look at some ideas of using AR that are currently being developed, and discuss their implications

You may want to modify your woeksheet a little as MojoVision have abandoned their project and laid off 75% of their staff. I suppose the publicity video used in this lesson was a last gasp attempt by them to attract an investor

    1. Ewa

Hi Alex! I think this info could be turned into an additional task. Students might discuss, e.g.:
Why do you think the company abandoned the project?
Do you think the project is worth undertaking?
Will companies like MojoVision find investors now or in the future?

My ‘conversation class’ students enjoyed discussing the videos. They then did a 20 minute creative task afterwards, which involved them designing their own technology. Thank you!

No, there's no minimum required number of subscription months. You can cancel any time you want. Basically, you can sign up and then cancel your subscription the next day, which will mean you have access for 1 month and won't be charged again.

What currencies can I pay in for my subscription?

Our default currency is USD (American dollar), but you can also pay in EUR (euro), GBP (British pound sterling) or PLN (Polish zloty). You can change the currency you want to pay in at the Pricing page before selecting a subscription plan.

How can I edit an e-lesson plan?

You can get your own editable copy of an e-lesson plan and make changes to it. To do so, either (1) make a copy of it on your Google Drive (preferable method) or (2) download it in a Powerpoint format (but formatting might be a bit off so we can’t guarantee that it will work well).
