This is a Vocabulary Lab worksheet. With it, students are introduced to a set of vocabulary on a specific topic and practise it through controlled activities, speaking tasks and games. Learn more about it here.
WARM-UP AND VOCABULARY
This worksheet starts with a warm-up where students discuss living in a house or in a flat. Afterwards, they practise household vocabulary by reading sentences about furniture and household items (e.g. I keep a plant and a photo on a shelf above my bed). Students label pictures with names of things in the house (e.g. shelf, ceiling, floor). Next, they read sentences about house objects and choose the best option to complete them. Students then say if any of them are true for their home (e.g. there is a big shelf near my desk). Moving on, they look at the picture of a living room and read words for objects in it (e.g. armchair, ceiling fan, carpet). After that, students cover the photo and answer questions about where the items are in the room.
VOCABULARY PRACTICE
In this part of the worksheet, students look at the words for home items (e.g. AC, armchair, bookcase) and talk about their uses and locations in a house. After that, they read questions about home items and practise household vocabulary by choosing the correct option to complete them (e.g. Why do people look in a shelf/mirror?). Students then discuss the questions. Next, they read lines with words for house objects. In each line, students circle the word that is different from the others and explain why. Moving on, they work in pairs. Students take turns describing a house item from the worksheet for their partner to guess. Then, they swap roles, each describing five different items.
HOMEWORK/REVISION
This worksheet also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students read statements and unscramble letters to practise household vocabulary. They choose three situations and imagine what they would do next. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.
