LESSON OVERVIEW
The main objectives of this lesson are to:
- practise advanced verbs to talk about movement;
- talk about how to ride different vehicles and share personal experiences;
- watch part of a video and discuss a futuristic personal mobility vehicle.
Students explore personal transport options, discuss how to ride different vehicles and watch a video segment (to 02:23) about a futuristic personal mobility vehicle. They review advanced verbs realted to movement (e.g. reverse a vehicle, slam on the brakes), share personal experiences and talk about new transport technologies.
WARM-UP AND VOCABULARY
This lesson starts with a warm-up. Students look at pictures and sets of words related to transport (e.g. kerb, bike lane, pothole). They say which word is not presented in the corresponding picture. After that, students read texts about riding a bike and an electric unicycle. They guess what verbs are missing in the gaps. Next, students use the correct forms of verbs (e.g. mount, reverse, cushion) to complete the gaps from the previous task. Moving on, they choose two means of transport and explain how to ride them using different points (e.g. how to gain speed). If they are not sure, they guess. Students use advanced vocabulary for transport (e.g. be thrown off balance, skid sideways).
VIDEO AND VOCABULARY PRACTICE
In this part of the lesson, students discuss questions on personal transport options. They then watch a video about a personal mobility vehicle of the future called Corleo. First, they try to guess the answers to complete statements about what’s in the video. Then, students watch part of it and check their answers. After that, they discuss points where they reflect on riding a Corleo and their personal impressions, using advanced vocabulary for transport.
HOMEWORK/REVISION
This lesson on advanced vocabulary for transport also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students practise advanced verbs to talk about movement and choose the correct words to complete questions. They then choose three questions and answer them. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.
