LESSON OVERVIEW

In this lesson students learn and put into practice dependent prepositions (in phrasal verbs and other expressions) while discussing reasons and ways of dealing with the common problem of procrastination.

B2 / Upper Intermediate30 minCritical Reading ClubUnlimited Plan

This is a Critical Reading Club worksheet. With this format, students need to read an online article at home and do the exercises in the classroom. Learn more about how to use such worksheets and their benefits in our post.

ACTIVITIES

The first activity in this lesson allows students to test their knowledge of dependent prepositions. They read eight gapped sentences and complete each of them with the correct preposition (e.g. ruminate on, dial down, pile up). Next, they engage in a discussion about time management and procrastination and relate the problem to their own experience. The final activity is all about practising the phrasal verbs and other given words and phrases from the article students read before the lesson. Their task is to use them to give advice to someone who wants to procrastinate less.

Hi, I can’t access BBC from my country so can you send me the reading via email? Thanks a lot 🙂

    1. Stan

Sorry to hear that! We try to find articles as widely available as possible but obviously it’s impossible to know what’s available and what’s not in every country.

  2. Dani_mob

Interesting topic and activity. I’d only suggest that reading comprehension activities are included. Otherwise, the article seems to have no purpose here.

    1. Ewa

Hi Dani, thanks for the feedback. The Critical Reading Club worksheets are not regular reading lessons. Their purpose is to provide context for speaking in the lesson and to encourage students to read authentic texts in English for pleasure rather than to do comprehension tasks. We think that lesson time is often better used if students speak and not read, and that reading is a task that is best done alone. Also, in the CRC worksheets, we always include a task or a question that refers to the article students read at home. We don’t base the entire worksheet on the article only because we know that not all students read articles at home (or they only do it sometimes) and we want the lesson to be manageable for teachers. Generally, the idea behind CRC is to encourage students to take responsibility for their learning. You can read more about CRC worksheets here.

Questions

Is there a minimum subscription period if I choose a monthly subscription?

No, there’s no minimum required number of subscription months. You can cancel any time you want. Basically, you can sign up and then cancel your subscription the next day, which will mean you have access for 1 month and won’t be charged again.

What currencies can I pay in for my subscription?

Our default currency is USD (American dollar), but you can also pay in EUR (euro), GBP (British pound sterling) or PLN (Polish zloty). You can change the currency you want to pay in at the Pricing page before selecting a subscription plan.

How can I edit an e-lesson plan?

You can get your own editable copy of an e-lesson plan and make changes to it. To do so, either (1) make a copy of it on your Google Drive (preferable method) or (2) download it in a Powerpoint format (but formatting might be a bit off so we can’t guarantee that it will work well).
