LESSON OVERVIEW

In this lesson about office tours, students watch a video about a LinkedIn office, learn some phrases including intermediate phrasal verbs and give two office tours. 

INTERMEDIATE PHRASAL VERBS

In the warm-up activity, students discuss some questions about being a newbie. Then, they look at a list of spaces (e.g. meeting room, canteen, deck) and order them from the most to the least important in an office. They need to explain their choices. After that, students complete phrases using provided words (e.g. hold a meeting, grab a coffee). The phrases include intermediate phrasal verbs (e.g. keep up, chill out, go over). Students also need to match the phrases with their synonyms. Finally, students look at some statements about starting a new job and being a newbie in the office. They need to say whether they agree with them or not.

The second part of the lesson starts with the video. After watching it, students discuss some questions related to the LinkedIn office and the spaces provided there. After the discussion, students do a multiple choice task. They need to complete some phrases for showing someone a place. The phrases include some intermediate phrasal verbs (e.g. show around, move on, check out). Then, students look at an office map. The map presents different office spaces on four floors. With a partner, students take turns and give a short tour of the office to a new colleague. They need to use the phrases from the previous exercise. Finally, students imagine their dream office and complete its map using a template. Then, they work in pairs and give their partner a tour of the office. They also get a tour of their partner’s office. They need to ask a minimum of two questions about the office.
