DISCUSSION & COMPOUND ADJECTIVES

The lesson starts with a warm-up activity in which students look at the title of the lesson and brainstorm what it might be about. Then, they read five short descriptions of corporate misconduct. They need to talk and decide on the order from the most to the least serious. After that, students discuss some general questions about corporate misconduct, responsibilities companies have and greenwashing. After the discussion, students do a task in which they have to create compound adjectives using the context and provided words (e.g. profit-related, foundation-owned, forward-thinking). The task is divided into two parts to make it easier for students. Then, students need to look at the compound adjectives again and create a sentence using as many of the adjectives as possible. Finally, they discuss some questions using the compound adjectives.

VIDEO & STATING OPINIONS

This part of the lesson starts with the video about the founder of the company Patagonia. First, students watch the beginning of the video. While they watch, they need to answer two comprehension questions. While watching the second part of the video, they list ways in which the company stands out among other companies according to the speaker in the video. After the viewing, students have a discussion about Patagonia and its founder. They also talk about a different model of doing business in the world. Finally, students do the last speaking task. They read five comments about the video they watched and need to say to what extent they agree with them. The comments contain several compound adjectives from the first part of the lesson and are positive, negative and neutral.
