LESSON OVERVIEW

The main objectives of this lesson are to:

  • discuss AI and data strategies for business;
  • learn and practise useful phrases for data analysis;
  • watch a video segment about analyzing business data with AI.

Students talk about forms of data collection, examine business scenarios and suggest useful data for monitoring success. They work with data analysis phrases (e.g. provide insights, categorize findings, identify areas for improvement), discuss their experiences and watch part of a video (from 00:33) about using AI for business data analysis. Students also share their opinions, propose AI and data solutions for business scenarios and practise writing AI prompts.

WARM-UP AND USEFUL PHRASES

This lesson starts with a warm-up. Students look at common forms of data collection (e.g. customer surveys, financial reports, market research) and discuss questions about business data collection and analysis. Afterwards, they look at different types of businesses and decide what data they would collect to track performance or growth. Following that, they use pairs of verbs to complete phrases for data analysis (e.g. process raw data, generate visualizations, analyze large datasets). Moving on, students look at the phrases from the previous exercise and discuss their experience with the tasks.

VIDEO AND DISCUSSION

In this part of the lesson, students watch part of a video about Google Sheets and Gemini and say how the tools can be used together. Next, they watch part of the video again and tick the steps that are mentioned. Afterwards, students discuss questions about AI tools for data analysis in business. After that, they read different situations involving business decisions and choose three of them. Students say how they would use data and AI in each. Next, they write short AI prompts to address the situations from the previous task. Students use phrases for data analysis (e.g. provide insights, make data-driven decisions, categorize findings).

HOMEWORK/REVISION

This lesson also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students look at definitions and complete phrases for data analysis in sentences. They then choose two phrases they created to describe the tasks they or people they know do at work. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.
