This is a Critical Reading Club worksheet. With this format, students need to read an online article at home and do the exercises in the classroom. Learn more about how to use such worksheets and their benefits in our post.
ACTIVITIES
The worksheet starts with a vocabulary task. Students look at five gapped phrases and have to complete them with one word, using given first letters and definitions (e.g. hotel-style amenities, high-end college dorm). Then, they use the phrases to talk about the facilities in co-living apartments which they read about before the lesson. The discussion is followed by another vocabulary task in which students match five half-phrases with their endings to create five complete phrases related to the theme of the article (e.g. upend the rental market, fast-paced individual). Students put them into practice through another discussion, speculating about the reasons why co-living is gaining popularity in some big cities. The final activity allows students to fully engage in the topic of the article. They have to share their views on the current situation of the rental market in their cities and reflect on the potential ways in which co-living could benefit human connections.
