| LESSON OVERVIEW
This veganism lesson plan looks at the rise of veganism in the UK and across the world. Students will have a lot of opportunities to talk and discuss the topic, as well as learn related vocabulary and watch a short TV news report about the so-called vegan economy.
VOCABULARY
The worksheet starts with a warm-up activity which includes a few different terms such as flexitarians, raw vegans, pescetarians, etc. Students’ task is to guess what these people eat. Some of the terms might be self-explanatory while others might be tricky. Let your students brainstorm for a while but don’t spend too much time on that. In the next task, they move to another vocabulary task. This time they have to complete questions with food-related words from a box. Finally, they have to answer these questions which are all connected with food and dieting.
VIDEO
In this part of our veganism lesson plan, students will watch a short TV news report about vegan economy in the UK. Before watching the video, students have to discuss a few questions concerning veganism as a growing trend. Then, they move to two exercises concerning the video. First, they watch the video and have to decide whether the sentences they read are true or false. Next, they have fill in some gapped sentences with correct prepositions and adverbs and then watch the video again to check their answers.
PHRASES WITH GO AND DISCUSSION
Finally, the last two tasks of the worksheet focus again on vocabulary. As in the second task of this veganism lesson plan students learn the phrase ‘go plant-based’, now they get 6 more phrases with the verb go. Their task is to match the phrases with their meanings. Moreover, they have discuss questions which include the phrases with go they’ve learned in the previous task and get into a longer discussion on the topic of veganism.

This lesson is about vegans so why not add some idiomatic expressions that include fruit and vegetables. With our extra worksheet, your students will learn 10 common idioms with fruit and veggies. They will discover their meanings from context, create sample conversations with them and see how they can be used in speech.
This 2-page worksheet can be used as a filler or warm-up task for other classes as well.

My students and I really enjoy this lesson. In exercise 8, however, one of the questions has a word order problem: “Do you think meat businesses might go bust or will turn vegan to be still on the market?” The word “still” should go before “be,” but I think this phrase (“still be on the market”) would sound better if replaced by “stay in the market.”
