LESSON OVERVIEW

This flipped classroom worksheet is prepared for B2 learners and is based on a TED  talk (14 min) by Kang Lee who studies what happens when children lie and explains why we should be happy rather than concerned when children start to lie.

PRE-CLASS ACTIVITIES

The first exercise that students have to do before the class is a listening comprehension activity. They get 4 questions and they have to answer them after watching the video.
The second exercise in the pre-class worksheet focuses on word building. Students have to complete sentences by transforming the words in brackets. After that, they can check their answers by reading the video transcript.

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

The in-class worksheet includes a discussion about the talk and other, more general issues connected with lying. There are only 3 questions to discuss, however, you can also refer to the questions from the pre-class worksheet to check whether your students did their homework.
Next, students learn and use idioms and phrases connected with lying (such as pull someone’s leg, a pack of lies, bluff, etc.). First, they read the provided sentences and try to guess the meaning of the underlined words and phrases. Each example includes a bit of context so it shouldn’t be very difficult to get the meaning of new vocabulary.
Then, there is a practical activity. Students answer questions which include words and phrases from the previous task. Finally, they need to prepare one true and one false piece of information about themselves. In pairs, they try to guess which information about their partner is true and which is false.
