WARM-UP & VIDEOS

The lesson starts with a warm-up activity where students try to remember their last purchase and discuss it. For example, they talk about why they bought it and whether they were happy with it. Then, students talk about things that make people buy new things (e.g. TV ad, influencer’s recommendation, printed ad, etc.). They also rank them from the most to the least effective ones. After that, students look at some statements and try to come up with one argument for and one against each idea. The statements are related to ads and marketing. This speaking lesson about ads contains two short ads (Nike and Samsung), which students watch and discuss. They discuss whether they like them, what makes ads successful, and what emotions they should cause. Students also share their personal experiences and try to recall a marketing campaign or ad that they like or find annoying. 

READING & MORE DISCUSSION

In this part of the conversational lesson about ads, students read three short texts about Coca-Cola’s famous marketing campaigns and express their opinions about them. A teacher can ask follow-up questions and also show the pictures related to the campaigns. After that, students discuss tricks that advertisers use (e.g. memorable tunes, freebies and giveaways, the ‘before and after’ effect, etc.) and say whether they affect their purchasing behaviour. Students also look at different products like cars, real estate, airlines, etc. and say which of the mentioned things (e.g. pets, happy families, business people, etc.) marketers usually use to advertise them. In the final activity of this speaking lesson about ads students get creative and create their own marketing campaign for one of the products. They brainstorm ideas and think about music, a slogan, visuals, emotions, and other ad campaign aspects.

    As much as I really like this content and I really do. I find that the majority of my clients who are in advertising are in online advertising which is a bit different from tradtional advertising and it would be great to have some lessons about this. Thanks!

Is there a minimum subscription period if I choose a monthly subscription?
