As always, October was a busy month for us at ESL Brains…🏃‍♀️

We had our hands full this month! With a month’s worth of new material including EIGHT new A1 worksheets, you might find this month’s recap a little bulkier than normal…here are all of October’s new lessons! 👇

October in a Nutshell

We published 21 new worksheets💪, including:

FREE lesson plan:

  • Coaching and mentoring
    C1 students practise phrases about personal development, watch a video about a coaching session and share opinions. They also read about a coaching tool and reflect on their goals.

PREMIUM+ lesson plans ($6+):

  1. My morning routine

    A1 students learn useful collocations and practise speaking about what they do every morning. They explore adverbs of frequency and talk about morning habits around the world.

  2. What’s your favourite food?

    A1 students practise food vocabulary for beginners and discuss videos and recordings about food preferences and habits. They share favourite foods and practise countable and uncountable nouns.
     
  3. Things we use every day (order of adjectives)

    A2/B1 students explore and use adjectives in the correct order! They watch a video of everyday objects in super macro, discuss personal objects and talk about objects with different characteristics.

  4. Healthy lifestyle (Present Simple negative)

    A1
    students practise Present Simple negative by talking about healthy lifestyles! They describe pictures, talk about habits, and watch a video about different lifestyles.

    A2/B1
    students talk about hotel situations, practise functional language for hotel interactions and watch a video about an Airbnb flat. They also do a role-play using target vocabulary.

    C2
    students learn contract terminology, share opinions and experiences, and watch a video about turning everyday language into legalese. They also draft sections of a ‘classroom contract’.

  7. What’s the weather like? 

    A1
    students learn weather vocabulary for beginners, match descriptions with pictures, watch a video, and talk about weather preferences. They discuss the seasons and describe local climates.

  1. A day in the life

    A1 students learn daily routine vocabulary and practise Present Simple affirmative with he, she, it. They describe pictures, read short texts, watch a video and learn how to talk about their day.
     
  2. For breakfast, I have…

    A1 students practise vocabulary on breakfast foods. They discuss a video about breakfasts around the world and listen to a recording. They also practise articles and do ‘some’ and ‘any’ exercises.

  3. How smart are animals?

    B1/B2 students discuss animal intelligence in this Speaking lesson. They learn about animal skills and read fascinating animal stories. They watch a video, consider an animal’s POV, and discuss questions.

  4. Can you weigh in on this?

    C1/C2 students learn functional vocabulary for meeting facilitation and share experiences, approaches, and opinions. They learn facilitation techniques, watch a video, and do a roleplay.

  5. Work relationships: bridges and boundaries

    C1 students talk about work relationships with this Speaking lesson! Students review vocabulary, discuss the impact of certain workplace practices and watch a video on reasons to be yourself at work.

  6. What time do you…?

    A1 students learn how to talk about time, explore time expressions, and practise Present Simple questions. They also practise listening skills by watching videos of people talking about their bedtimes.

  7. Do you believe in ghosts?

    B2 students practise vocabulary related to mysterious and supernatural events, watch a video on why people claim to see ghosts and discuss their beliefs. They also play a quest game!

  8. Real-life superheroes

    B1 students discuss an article about real-life superheroes, explore opinions, think about acts of kindness, and learn vocabulary. They consider real-life superhero activities and look at real examples

  9. An unusual place to live

    B2 students discuss unusual places and practise vocabulary for extreme environments. They watch a video about living underground and share their perspectives about living under extreme conditions. 

  10. Hobbies: more than just free time

    A2 students share their thoughts and experiences related to pastimes in this Speaking lesson. They explore useful phrases, watch two short videos on hobbies, and play a guessing game!

  11. Dress or jeans: clothes we wear

    A1 students learn clothing vocabulary and look at pictures of clothing. They talk about dressing appropriately for events and climates and practise listening skills with videos and recordings.

  12. The doctor will see you now

    B1 students learn functional vocabulary in this Flipped lesson. They watch an advice video about a doctor’s visit. They work with vocabulary to answer questions, describe ailments, and do a roleplay.

  13. Cleaning up the space mess

    B2/C1​ students discuss an article on space debris in this CRC lesson. They learn useful phrases and practise argumentative skills with a​role-play. Students also discuss facts and opinions on space debris.
