| LESSON OVERVIEW
This flipped lesson plan is based on a very interesting speech by Leah Georges who explains how stereotypes about generations may hold us back in the workplace. As right now there are 5 generations interacting at work, it is a very hot topic. The lesson will be definitely engaging for HR professionals.
This is a Flipped Classroom lesson plan. In a nutshell, it means that the first part of the lesson needs to be done by students at home. Learn more about flipped classroom and how we implement it in these lesson plans in our post.
PRE-CLASS ACTIVITIES
Firstly, students need to look at a glossary which contains three words used in the speech. These are to crochet, a ball pit and a break room. It’s important that they understand their meanings as these words play quite a role in the video. Next, they should watch the video and complete the table about different generations with the words and information they hear. The second exercise involves word formation. Students have to use the words at the end of sentences to form a new word that fits into the gap. They should check their answers by finding the right words in the video transcript.
IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES
The in-class worksheet starts with a short task on vocabulary. Students have to match halves to create expressions. All of them were used by the speaker, so students may remember some of them. Then, students move to a discussion. There are questions as well as quotations from the speech to discuss. They all include some vocabulary from the previous tasks so that students can practise them when speaking.
