LESSON OVERVIEW 

In this worksheet for conversation classes, students talk at length about careers and professions and watch two short videos about unusual jobs. They also state their opinions on several topics related to the world of work.

WARM-UP & DISCUSSION

This worksheet for conversation classes starts with the warm-up activity in which students need to choose two topics from a list of four and share their experience in the chosen areas. The topics are related to jobs and careers (e.g. qualities a person needs to do a job you currently have). Then, students read four quotes by famous people and need to explain what they think they mean. They also say whether any of them applies to their experience. Next, students discuss some questions about careers and professions. They share their experience with making career choices, share their views on career advisors, and compare choosing a career today and in the past. They also have to list professions that will probably disappear soon and talk about emerging jobs that didn’t exist a decade ago. They also think about some advice they would give to young people choosing a career. 

VIDEOS & MORE SPEAKING

In this part of the lesson, students watch the two short videos about unusual jobs (dating app ghostwriter, and dumpster diver). After the viewing, they discuss what the jobs involve, what qualities a person needs to do them and the social trends that the jobs reflect. Then, they read four comments and need to decide which of them best expresses their thoughts about the videos. In the final part of this worksheet for conversation classes, students read five statements and discuss to what extent they agree with them. They need to expand on their answers. The statements refer to professions which are or used to be respected, salaries for different jobs and the jobs that are idolised nowadays.
