July was a fun month at ESL Brains! We published new lesson plans on all kinds of topics, ranging from Shakespearian language 📜… to therapy speak 🧠… and even crime-fighting technologies🔦!

July in a Nutshell

We published 14 new worksheets💪, including:

FREE lesson plan:

  • Meeting a celebrity (expressing frequency)

    A2 students discuss interactions between celebrities and fans, talk about different aspects of fame, watch a video, and practice expressing frequency (e.g. once a day, rarely).

PREMIUM+ lesson plans ($6+):

  1. Shakespeare: the be-all and end-all?

    C1/C2 students discuss Shakespeare’s work, analyse quotes, and learn Shakespearian-coined phrases. They watch a video on his legacy, explore themes and plots, and share opinions.

  2. Open-source software: use, study, share, improve

    B2 students discuss personal software use, talk about open-source software, and watch a video. They explore vocabulary, think of industry challenges, and discuss its future.
     
  3. The power of breathing

    B1 students discuss breathing exercises, explore relaxation techniques, and watch a video about box breathing. They learn some vocabulary and look at stress management tips.

  4. Meeting a celebrity (expressing frequency)

  1. The art of leadership

    B2 students explore job satisfaction and practise vocabulary! They watch a video about work environments, read about organisational structures, and discuss workplace challenges

  2. What a chore!

    In this A2/B1 Speaking lesson, students discuss chores, practise vocabulary and watch a funny video. They discuss tips to make chores fun and have role play tasks about doing chores. 

  3. I was wondering if… (making requests)

    With this A2/B1 lesson, students explore making requests. They watch a funny ad and discuss requests at work. Students practise phrases to make requests and do a role play activity.
     
  4. Is free speech hate speech?

    A C1/C2 Speaking lesson in which students discuss the impact of controversial statements, watch a video about perspectives on free speech and talk about the ethics of censorship.

  5. Sharing experiences (Present Perfect and Past Simple)

    With this A2/B1 lesson, students discuss the topics people talk about when they first meet. They practise Present Perfect and Past Simple, watch a video, and do a role play activity.

  6. Therapy speak

    C1/C2 students dive into therapy speak with this CRC lesson! They examine opinions on therapy and mental health, and talk about the pros and cons of therapy speak. 

  7. Workplace safety

    B1/B2 students talk about safety in the workplace! Students practice vocabulary about workplace injuries and accidents, watch a video, and discuss workplace rules and regulations. 

  8. Fighting crime with tech

    B2/C1 students talk about crime-fighting technology in this Speaking lesson! They discuss a video about one such technology, and explore future possibilities and inventions.

  9. How about a little improvement?

    A B1 Flipped lesson in which students watch a video on employee satisfaction measurement and discuss the concept. They also revise and practise quantifiers (e.g. a few, a little). 

  10. Mockumentaries and other comedy series

    A B2/C1 CRC lesson in which students explore comedy TV shows and subgenres (e.g. mockumentaries), learn relevant vocabulary, and brainstorm comedy series ideas.
