The main objectives of this lesson are to:
- talk about university life;
- review vocabulary related to degrees, studies and campus life;
- practise the pronunciation of key academic terms.
In this lesson, students discuss university-related topics and review vocabulary connected to degrees, courses and academic life. They match sentences, choose correct collocations and use them to talk about themselves or people they know. Students also examine statistics about universities around the world, discuss real-life situations linked to campus life and play a vocabulary game to consolidate what they’ve learned.

WARM-UP AND VOCABULARY
This lesson starts with a warm-up in which students talk about university life. Students think of three words connected to university for different categories (people, subjects and places). Afterwards, they read sentences about people’s academic experiences and match them with their follow-up sentences, reviewing key vocabulary (e.g. graduated, bachelor’s degree, scholarship). Moving on, students look at sets of collocations and identify the incorrect option in each one. Following that, they choose one collocation and use it to create a sentence about themselves or someone they know.
UNIVERSITY LIFE AND PRONUNCIATION
In this part of the lesson, students look at statistics about universities around the world and choose the correct word to complete each statement. They then discuss whether the data surprises them and whether it’s true where they live. Moving on, students read short situations about university life and match vocabulary in bold (e.g. semester, deadline, lab class) with their definitions. They discuss what they would do in each situation. Then, they share their opinions on related statements, adding details. Following that, students categorize vocabulary by word stress and listen to check their answers. Then, they play bingo with the vocabulary from the lesson. Finally, students talk about university life more and choose their preferred option and explain their choice.
HOMEWORK/REVISION
This lesson also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students choose the correct word in sentences about university life and complete them using a word in brackets. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.
