The main objectives of this lesson are to:
- talk about likes and dislikes;
- review adjectives for sharing opinions;
- listen to a recording of two friends deciding what to do in the evening.
In this lesson, students think of examples for different categories and say whether they like or dislike them. They also review adjectives such as amazing, delicious and boring. Students listen to a recording of two friends deciding what to eat and watch in the evening, and learn phrases for sharing opinions, agreeing and disagreeing. Students then practise these phrases in dialogues and discussions of their own.

WARM-UP AND VOCABULARY
This lesson starts with a warm-up in which students think of an example for each category and say whether they like or dislike it. Afterwards, they match sentences containing adjectives (e.g. amazing, ugly, disgusting) with their follow-up sentences. Then, they find three pairs of opposites among them and think of opposites for the remaining two. Moving on, students complete gapped sentences with these adjectives and replace the underlined parts with their own ideas to make the sentences true for them.
LISTENING AND FUNCTIONAL LANGUAGE
In this part of the lesson, students listen to a recording of Charlie and Julie planning their evening and complete a short summary of what they hear. They then predict and check which foods and film genres each speaker likes, before discussing similar questions about their own preferences. Moving on, students listen to the recording again and choose the correct phrase used in each line. Then, they sort these phrases into categories for sharing opinions: giving an opinion, asking for an opinion, agreeing and disagreeing. Following that, students complete short dialogues with these phrases and say what they think about the topics mentioned. Finally, in pairs, students take turns giving their opinion on a series of topics and responding to their partner using the functional language.
HOMEWORK/REVISION
This lesson also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students unscramble adjectives and write a response using phrases for sharing opinions. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it, cut it up and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.
