reading worksheet about decisions

LESSON OVERVIEW

The main objectives of this reading worksheet about decisions are to:

  • read excerpts of an article about the connection between decision fatigue and health;
  • discuss making choices and its impact on eating habits;
  • review key verbs for the conversation.

In this lesson, students talk about making choices and read parts of an article about decision fatigue and its health implications. They explore the definition of ‘decision fatigue’, share their personal experiences and reflect on food choices. Students practise useful verbs for the discussion (e.g. influence, experience, prepare) and expand on the article’s tips for food management. They also debate ways to spend less energy on decisions.

WARM-UP AND USEFUL VOCABULARY

This reading worksheet about decisions starts with a warm-up. Students look at a statement about the average number of choices a person makes a day and guess the number. They then discuss their reaction to the information and share their personal experiences. Moving on, students read the first part of an article about the effects of making decisions on our health and choose the best definition for ‘decision fatigue’. Afterwards, they talk about decision fatigue when choosing food and guess what the rest of the article is about. Then, students read the second part of the article and say which ideas are false. Following that, they review the part of the article from the previous task and identify verbs (e.g. include, consider, expect) for their definitions.

READING PRACTICE AND DISCUSSION

In this part of this reading worksheet about decisions, students choose the correct verb to complete sentences about personal habits, attitudes and routines around food. They then say if the sentences are true for them and share details. After that, students read the last part of the article and put headings before the correct paragraphs. Moving on, they do tasks where they analyse, expand and adapt the article’s food management tips. Finally, students examine other areas where people might experience decision fatigue (home, work/studies and free time). They describe decisions they often make, talk about what influences them and explore ways to spend less energy on these decisions.

HOMEWORK/REVISION

This reading worksheet about decisions also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students complete questions about food choices with the target verbs from the lesson. They then answer the questions. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.
