A year after introducing Vocabulary Lab worksheets, we are excited to present another new lesson format: the Reading Corner worksheets, a reading lesson with the ESL Brains twist!
What exactly are the Reading Corner worksheets?

Based on authentic articles, the Reading Corner worksheets are based around engaging and up-to-date topics. The articles are split into short parts and read by students during the lesson. This allows for all kinds of reading comprehension activities which allow for a more in-depth discussion on the topic.

For levels B2 and higher, we usually abridge the article but leave the language untouched, so students are exposed to authentic language only. For levels B1/B2 and lower, our authors both abridge and adapt the article to make the learning process more effective.
Working with the article in parts rather than as a whole makes the text easier to absorb. This design will also help you manage group lessons as the difference in the pace of reading among students will matter less. (If you prefer students to read articles at home before the lesson, our Critical Reading Club worksheets are the right fit.)

As all ESL Brains lessons, Reading Corner worksheets have loads of speaking opportunities. Engaging articles are a fantastic springboard for conversation. But students not only respond to what they read in the article. They also problem-solve, debate, comment on provided data, brainstorm ideas, talk about pictures and many more.

Just like Standard lessons, each Reading Corner worksheet focuses on target language, which is usually vocabulary or grammar. As in all ESL Brains lessons, target language is presented and practised in context. You will also find a homework/revision task at the end of each worksheet.
