NEWS SUMMARY
Typhoon Dolphin has been one of the strongest storms of 2026. It first swept through Japan’s southern islands, Okinawa and Amami, injuring several people and cutting power to tens of thousands of homes.
The storm then headed toward China, where authorities issued their highest-level typhoon alert. More than a million people were evacuated from coastal areas in Zhejiang and Fujian provinces and over a thousand flights were cancelled. Ports, schools and tourist sites were shut down as a precaution.
