PRE-CLASS ACTIVITIES

In the pre-class part of this Business English flipped lesson, students complete gaps with prepositions and understand expressions related to success and ambition. Then, they apply the studied vocabulary to complete dialogues and reinforce comprehension and application of new vocabulary, so that they can use it during the lesson

IN-CLASS ACTIVITIES

Warm-up

As a warm-up to this Business English flipped lesson, students articulate their understanding of downshifting and its benefits in a task in which they need to finish statements.. Then, they read sentences describing various situations and provide advice using the vocabulary from the pre-class part. They also have the chance to share their personal experiences.

Video and discussion about ambition

After the warm-up, students read an introduction to a video (TV interview) to predict the content of the video based on the information provided. After that, they discuss and identify the key points mentioned in the TV interview they watch and consolidate the ideas and vocabulary from it. Finally, this Business English flipped lesson ends with further discussion utilising the vocabulary from the lesson and promoting critical thinking. The students have the opportunity to explain societal expectations related to success for young adults and reflect upon alternative perspectives on personal fulfilment and well-being.

HOMEWORK/REVISION

This lesson plan also includes an additional task that you can use as homework or revision. In the task, students practise the use of the vocabulary found in the lesson. The task is available in the teacher’s version of the worksheet. You can print it and hand it out to your students. It’s also included in the e-lesson plan.

How can I edit an e-lesson plan?

You can get your own editable copy of an e-lesson plan and make changes to it. To do so, either (1) make a copy of it on your Google Drive (preferable method) or (2) download it in a Powerpoint format (but formatting might be a bit off so we can’t guarantee that it will work well).
